Maybe just one more dance
Caroline left at 3:30. I hope she had fun visiting, I bought her some ice-cream but unfortunately I lacked the foresight to realize that most of it would melt before I got back with it.

I'm listening to an old Twilight Zone episode, "Still Valley." It's one of my top ten favorites. But almost all the old episodes are worth at least one watch (with the exception of most of the humorous ones).

I needed to get in another cultural event for one of my classes, so I went unknowingly to this conservative thing with Bay Buchanan as the guest speaker. I didn't agree with all the positions presented, and politics in general is something I stay away from (I only read political magazines when I'm already in an irritated mood... despite my subscription) but it was interesting to go see, anyway.

I resisted the temptation to open up the prints and stickers and postcards. The realization that I'm almost out of stuff I actually want to collect in the AS fandom is depressing. Then again my coin, ceramic turtle, and stamp collections have been stagnating, so... XD I'm kidding, I'm kidding! Well, not about the collections but about moving back onto them...

I've got a couple things to do, all due on Friday at some point:

--write 5-7 page paper for Drama class (due Friday at midnight)
--write/memorize paragraph for Spanish class (need to do this by Friday morning)
--write about six non-free-verse poems for Creative Writing (due Friday at 2:00)
--finish my Stat homework (due Friday at 5:30)
--meet up with the people in my group for Drama (Friday at 2:30)

Unfortunately, I'd rather work on fanfics. XP I've got a couple of pages of this one Sara fanfic that's been lying around for months. The premise is such that it'd probably be best to do it in chapters, actually, and the sad fact of the matter is that I want to throw in characters that have absolutely no business being in the fic at all. And the other problem with the fic is that it's not just killing canon, it's strangling it with a telephone cord. Except in another way, it... isn't. XP I do write fics to prove a point, but honestly, I'm like everyone else, I mainly just want people to like what I write.

There's also a Death Note fic that's been on my mind for a couple months now, a Matt and Mello one-shot commentary. Don't worry, no romance!

What's the fic about? :O You've got me curious. XD I know I had a very canon-noncompliant Sara-'fic about halfway written a while back but I decided against it because I couldn't work out the premise.

"Still Valley"... hm, I don't think I've seen that one. What is it about? If you don't want to spoil anyone you can PM me or something. I love old 'Twilight Zone' episodes. Maybe I'll check it out if I get the chance.

I really don't think I could last two seconds at a conservative event without starting to foam at the mouth, honestly. But I'm the liberaliest of the liberals, so. idk, I was going somewhere with this but I got lost? I admire that you're willing to keep an open mind/listen to other positions, is what I guess I was trying to say. :)

Oh, mine is so... heh, well, remember that part in like volume one or so where Kira like, threatens to date Sara? ... This fic has him going through with it to completely disastrous consequences for everyone. =( Ooh, tell me about yours! Even if you decided against it askgdj I always love hearing about fics!

I figure it's late in the day for spoilers! It's basically about this group of Confederates during the Civil War who stumble upon a regiment of Union soldiers that're completely paralyzed, and they find out it's due to the witchcraft of this old man (who intends to do the same thing to the whole Union army to ensure the Confederacy wins, but dies before he can). They get the book of magic the old man was using, and unfortunately they find out they're enlisting the help of the Devil if they go through with the plan.

Haha, really? I call myself a conservative but I don't really match up on all the issues with most of them and I think the fact that I don't care for Republicans in general doesn't... exactly mesh well with that. XD Thanks!

OH YES. ahaha oh my. =( That sounds like a sad story. I'd kind of like to read it, though, if you ever get around to writing it? The premise is interesting! Plus I've been having some serious issues with writing for/RPing/etc. Kira lately and reading someone else's take might help. DX And mine is really dumb, like I said. Mostly, I just wondered how AS would be different, and how it would still be the same, if Sara was the protagonist tasked with saving the world and Setsuna was the love interest. But I couldn't really work it out in a way that made any sense to me, so I abandoned it.

True! xD "Twilight Zone" is pretty old...and wow. That sounds pretty interesting, honestly. I'll have to look it up sometime.

Awwww. It's no problem! Why do you identify as a conservative, if you don't mind me asking? I like hearing about other people's politics, although I apologize if that comes off as prying.

It's on youtube if you've got a good connection! Actually, there's a couple of episodes with the devil involved and an awful lot with the occult in general, which, er, oddly enough I'm a sucker for... XD

I don't mind! It's mostly just my religious/personal beliefs, especially on abortion but my reasons for that are pretty personal and go beyond religion really and I don't wanna go into that. I'm a rather lazily practicing Mormon. XD Although I blame Republican greed for most of bad the economy is now. So I'm kinda stuck, I guess you could say.

Hahaha no, there isn't. D: Sara is alone! But yes, I like it a lot there! It's very fun so far! I haven't been there long, but still!

Oooh. :O Ty. I'll check it out. And yeah, I love devil-related stuff. I keep wondering if the fascination comes from my Catholic upbringing and the weird fascination with the devil/possession/etc. that instilled.

Ah, I see. I won't get into my feelings on abortion, then. I will say, though, that it's not like you have to be either a Republican or a Democrat; there are a lot of other options, although it's true that people who don't belong to either of the two major parties are marginalized by the system. (I used to be a registered Green but recently switched to Democrat because I knew that that the Green candidate would never actually get elected and I wanted to have some kind of a say in the person I'd likely end up voting for, and in my state you have to be a registered member of a party to participate in that party's caucuses.) And it is possible to be economically liberal and socially conservative, although someone with that philosophy probably might not fit in well with the 'mainstream' Republican philosophy. Still, it's not like you have to fit into a check box of Perfect Liberal or Perfect Conservative in order to have a coherent philosophy. Does...that make any sense? I'm sorry, it probably doesn't, does it? :\ Bleh, I got about four hours of sleep last night so I probably sound like a moron. (The economy is one of the big reason I identify as a liberal. The other ones are social, though---my views on war, my views on abortion and my views on how to handle various forms of oppression always seem to fall more in line with liberals than conservatives.) I'm sorry if this comes off as preachy or annoying or makes no sense. You can smack me if you want.

Same here! Well, Mormon background but there's still... I dunno. =( Even when I was a kid the story that fascinated me most in the Bible was Saul and the Witch of Endor, heh...

That's true. No, no, it makes sense! It does feel like people expect there to be a sort of checklist to pidgeonhole people into sometimes. Although I have to apologetically admit I'm not overly informed about politics in general...

Awwww. Yeah, castmates would be nice! Honestly, that was one of two main reasons I took Sara instead of Kira there. You'd think, considering her brother obsession, Sara would be hard to play without Setsuna, but I actually find her easier to play than Kira in a game without castmates. Go fig. (The other reason is that I didn't want people comparing my Kira to yours because I was sure they'd conclude I was inferior.)

Speaking of devil stuff--have you ever seen The Exorcist?

Awww. Well, idk, I don't want to get preachy on you or be an asshole. But I will say that I consider being informed about and involved in politics to be important, and I think it's something everyone should educate themselves about. If you're ever interested I'd be happy to provide you with some good starter sites. :)

Hopefully you'll get some! Oh dear, I always found Kira hard to play without castmates, too (Katou was easier the one time I played him, because he'd end up finding druggie!friends wherever he went XD), he's just so dependent on them. Sara's way more friendly, I guess that helps. skgjadk aksdj But I really liked your Kira! I think yours was superior, actually...

Yes! I made the mistake of first watching it when I was home alone at midnight when I was, like, 12. asdgjk I had a hard time falling asleep that night, let me tell you, but after I was done freaking out about it I enjoyed it. XD I worked at a haunted house during high school, and the room next door to mine was the exorcism... so I have, sadly, heard "THE POWER OF CHRIST COMPELS YOU!!" about a million times. XDDD

I hope so! I've only ever played Katou in an AU where everyone was human, but that was surprisingly easy. It was a high school game so he just sold drugs in the bathroom and trolled people. And awwww. ./////. That's nice of you. idk I worry about putting myself down too much because I don't want to look like I'm fishing for compliments? But I also feel like, if I don't say something to acknowledge I don't think I'm perfect, that's dishonest somehow?

Oh, dear! XD That would be pretty freaky. I like it, but it still freaks me out. It's one of the only scary movies to ever scare me, along with "Jaws", and to this day exorcism movies still scare the hell out of me.

You worked at a haunted house?! OMFG. That sounds like so much fun! I'd like a job somewhere like that.

Omigosh, I played him at a high school A/U too! I didn't stay in the RP very long at all though. I was lazy and just took him from before he died the first time and left it at that. He kept getting reported by the class officers for selling drugs of course. You don't sound like you're fishing for compliments! agkj I was serious!

It was! Admittedly it was for a fundraiser the marching band was doing so I didn't get paid or anything (despite long hours), but it was a great time, I had a whole lot of fun! The local paper even took glossy pictures of all us in the cast and we autographed them. XD

Never? Well, you should see it. :D I don't think it would scare you the way it scares me but it's a pretty badass film. :)

I've been in... two but for some reason I have an unfortunate knack for finding and joining RPs that die on the vine, pretty much, so in both of those I was gone within a month. XD But it probably would've been fun if it'd lasted. akjsg Haha, pfft, nah, I'm not really.

=D I've seen it adverised on AMC sometimes, maybe once I'm home or something!

Yeah. XD I felt bad for the people with screaming parts because they all got so, so hoarse even when we were just practicing.

Maybe I shouldn't be online before 1:00, I totally forgot to comment on the fic part. XP It was... tragic and kind of over-the-top, what I had of it, but... AS is ridiculously over-the-top anyway. Really? I'd be glad to show you what I've got of it sometime! I... write too much Kira fic and get embarrassed about it so I only post about half of it to fanfiction.net, eep. And I get having trouble RPing Kira. So much. @___@ ... And that's not a dumb idea, actually! It's an interesting take. Sara might've been more fun to follow around as a protagonist to be honest... >.>;

AS is insanely over-the-top, and I think that might actually be half the point, honestly. And yay! I'd like that! You should totally show me. :) Awww. I haven't had an FF.net account in years, but maybe I should consider taking it up again, or something.

And awww...idk, I feel bad because he doesn't always give me trouble! Sometimes he's very easy. But when he gives me trouble, he gives me A LOT of trouble.

HA. I kind of think so, too, sometimes. I like Setsuna a lot, but I do think Sara has a lot of interesting potential, and tbh it might be easier to take her into certain moral gray areas. But I'm not sure how the premise of the story would be made workable that way, and to what extent people's roles would have to change while still keeping the characters IC.

Yeah. I felt like Sara ended up developing more as a character anyway than Setsuna did, at least to me. Hmm, yeah, you'd definitely have an epic on your hands by the time you even got started...

Yeah, I think flipping back through the manga is definitely a good call. I'll have to do that. And yeah. He's...idk, there are times when I feel like he just clicks with me and I completely 'get' him. And then there are other times when he totally eludes me and idk what to do with him and I end up failing.

I think they developed in different ways, and that Sara didn't necessarily develop MORE but that Sara's development was maybe more...immediately obvious? idk how to word it. But I definitely found her development very very interesting. And that's another thing that kind of makes me wonder how her development would be similar to canon and how it would be different in a story where she was tasked with a different goal. For that matter, how would SETSUNA'S development be different?

I think you're right there. I mean, Sara had the whole Moonlily thing and then there was the trial and all that that really showed how much stronger she'd gotten, Setsuna... maybe it wasn't quite so overt... Hmm, this is kind of leading me to imagine blind!Setsuna yelling at Raphael and Michael... oh, man, it's been so long since I've talked AS with anybody!

I don't know who Hud is and haven't seen the movie, sorry. :[ But if you want to talk weird associations, I... have a lot of them I'm not going to say here, lest somebody read them and decide I'm completely insane. And yeah, I've seen a lot of RPers/fic-writers struggle with not making him enough of a bastard, although I think it's possible to make Kira too much of an amoral bastard, too. I mean, don't get me wrong, he does have that bastard side to him and I think a lot of RPers (including myself) struggle with not making him bastardish enough. But I also feel like it's possible to go too far in the other direction; I guess what I'm saying is, if you forget the bastard side of his personality exists, he's not Kira, but if he's JUST a generic amoral bastard with no other facets to his personality, then he's still not Kira. And I think some people forget Kira =/= Lucifer, too.

I think maybe that's why Kira can be so tough to write, sometimes. He requires a lot of balance, I think, because if you push him too far in any direction he can come off as OOC. It's weird if he's too serious and doesn't tease anyone and never plays any jokes, for instance, unless you take him from one of the chapters in the manga where he's really mopey. But he also shouldn't be joking around all the time. He does have a more serious side to his personality and asksjdkal; now I'm rambling, sorry. :[

Yeah, I think that's about what I was trying to say in my roundabout, idiotic way. XD Setsuna's changes are more subtle. Sara's are very dramatic and obvious. I would kind of like to play her pre-series somewhere without a Setsuna and see how she develops there, actually. It might be interesting to see how her development is the same and how it's different from canon. (That's not to say I don't love RPing with Setsunas, because I do! I'm one of the people in AS fandom who actually likes Setsuna/Sara. But I think in a situation like that, removing him from the situation might be necessary to force her to grow.)

I also think, re: the protagonist!Sara fic... it would be tricky, because it couldn't be the exact same story with just genders reversed. But at the same time, some things WOULD have to be the same, or at least similar, to keep it recognizable as an AS fic. Does that make any sense? And HA. I'm not sure if a blind Setsuna would be more or less violent than Sara, but the idea is making me laugh now. Probably becuase I'm picturing him flailing around a lot, poor guy. (Completely off-topic and random: Another thing I'd like to do is find somewhere to play Raphy, Sara and Michael together from about that point in the manga. I think it could concievably be hilarious, especially if Sara and Mika start screaming at each other mid-crisis.)

I think I honestly tend(ed) to veer on the opposite, too-much-of-a-bastard scale more than anything without even meaning to. But I can see where it'd be easy to go in the other direction, I mean, you want him to be at least semi-likable to other characters (otherwise everyone's going to end up being like ".... yeah, what in the world do his castmates see in him that they don't just ditch him, swordsmanship skills aside"). And on top of all that he's so messed-up already and that can be hard to portray correctly too without him coming off as OOCly weird. I have an entirely irrational hate for Lucifer (I think it's the face tattoos or maybe the gas mask thing or... something) so thankfully I don't think I've had that problem, if nothing else! And augh I could talk about Kira forever. Obviously. >.>

akgjsd Can't add much other than I totally agree with what you say there. Balance is really key with him, way more than a lot of AS characters. I don't know, I've always thought a lot of it depends on where exactly you pick him up from. I mean, pick him up from the volume or so before he dies and he's gonna come off as more glum (at least initially, he'd probably cheer up as much as he cheers up after awhile) than he would if you picked him up from earlier. And askjfggsd no, I enjoy rambling! Feel free to continue!

I'm weird, I don't like Setsuna/Sara in canon much at all, but I do enjoy seeing it in fics and watching it RPed out because it seems more realistic. In my cracked-out mind.

It makes sense! ... XDDDD Oh dear now I'm picturing Setsuna doing a failed seduction... although I think he'd be even less subtle than Sara and just try to smash Raphael's head in as soon as they walked into the bedroom... (Hehe, that would be funny! ... Can I admit they're my secret het-ish OT3 now. Because they are. >.>)

The only humorous TZ episodes I really like are probably 'Hocus-Pocus and Frisby', because the alien masks creep me the hell out, and 'Printer's Devil', because Burgess Meredith can do no wrong, ever.

Out of his episodes, I think I'm one of the few who thinks 'The Obsolete Man' outshines 'Time Enough At Last' (even though they're both amazing).
